WHARF Hoping for Donations for Animals During Holidays

Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation, which rescues and houses abandoned or stray cats and dogs, are reaching out for donations during the holidays.

WHARF coordinator, Tessa Lee says items most needed includes cat litter, dog and cat food, puppy pads, dog beds and pet blankets.

Lee says they have seen an increase in cat numbers at the foundation, and needs are always great.

Those looking to donate items or cash can do so at the Whitecourt¬†Vet Clinic. People can also reach out to the group’s Facebook page or website, www.wharfrescue.ca.

Whitecourt Receives 5 Bloom Rating from Communities In Bloom

This past summer, Whitecourt participated in the Communities in Bloom – National Edition, and the town scored favourable results.

At Monday’s town council meeting, Councillors heard that Whitecourt received a score of 82.38 percent, for an overall rating of 5 out of 5 possible blooms.

Mayor Maryann Chichak on the significance for the town.

The town was evaluated in five categories, including tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, and floral displays.

The report also had special recognition for the town’s efforts on Rotary Park.
